The opening ceremony is one of the most exciting parts of the Olympics. One of the countries that killed it  this Olympics was Haiti. The kit was designed by Haitian designer, Stella Novarino, as a tribute to Haiti and message to the world that Haiti still stands strong amidst its political and environmental struggles.

Liberia sailed on the Seine in lovely unisex tunics designed by Telfar, a Liberian American who designed their uniforms with the story of Liberia’s independence and repatriation as inspiration.

For the South Sudan Olympic basketball team, the Olympics was more than just a game, it was an opportunity to bring awareness to the athletic talent that exists in Africa. Organizations like the Luol Deng Foundation founded by retired NBA player Luol Deng are also bringing these opportunities to the continent.

It’s time for the world to start seeing Africa as a continent blessed with precious resources and rare talent that should be nurtured and not exploited.

What makes Simone Biles so special isn’t just that she has continuously won gold for the USA, it’s also her ability to stand up for herself. Gymnastics is a sport where perfection is demanded from athletes and excuses are unacceptable, but making this decision was supported by other athletes and even gave some the opportunity to share their own struggles.

After winning 3 gold medals and 1 silver in this year’s Olympics, she has 11 Olympic gold medals making her the most decorated gymnast of our generation

Noah Lyles is most notably known for his cocky attitude and his outlandish claims, but he never forgets to stand on business. His insane mental strength, caused him to leave this year’s Olympics with 1 gold medal for 100m dash and 1 bronze medal for the 200m race.

Julien Alfred has won several gold and silver medals at track competitions such as the Commonwealth Games and the World Championships. But her victories didn't attract media attention, unlike those of some of her counterparts. That all changed when she won her first-ever Olympic gold medal for Saint Lucia in the 100 m final, beating heavyweights such as Sha'carri Richardson and M.J. Ta Lou
